Project Legacy
Despite the momentous impact of COVID-19, this project has been one of vital growth for us at the Museum of Youth Culture. Learning how to do things differently, battling against the odds and working to change minds whilst taking on those unexpected challenges, it’s hard to imagine a project that could promote any more growth than this.
With thanks to a thriving volunteer and Outreach Champions network, there have been hundreds of people singing the praises of the Museum of Youth Culture in lockdown, and it’s without them this project wouldn’t have been possible. One of the most exciting developments this year has been the organic forming of a Museum community, whether that’s debating over our open Whatsapp group, or doing talks on our behalf, we’ve been humbled to see the general public take ownership of what is after all, and always will be, a people’s Museum.

Over the year we’ve seen the power of the archive and museum to genuinely impact people’s lives and wellbeing for the better. Providing purpose and meaning during lockdown and giving back a sense of ownership, we’ve learnt that Museum practices can be carried out remotely, and we’re ever more agile to pop-up and pop-down whenever we need to.
With greatest thanks to National Lottery Players the Heritage Lottery Fund, Shaftesbury Plc, Printworks and our other loyal funders and supporters, we look forward to taking the Museum of Youth Culture to the next level with renewed clarity and determination in 2021.
